What really makes this home unique is its designed resistance to severe storm damage from
hurricanes and tornados. Its exterior structural walls and two interior crossing walls in the center
of the house are constructed of reinforced concrete using the stay in place EPS foam block
technique that make s the external walls very stiff and strong adds acoustic and thermal
insulation, and are designed to withstand 180 MPH wind loads . The neighbors christened this
structure Fort Genoa during construction. All the dual pane window and doors with glass are
protected with roll down shutters that roll up into the wall or soffit and are invisible when not
needed. Th is system was severally tested by Hurricane Katrina with category 5 winds and a 16
flood surge in 2005 . Some homes lost their brick veneers (due to the flexibility of their wooden
structural walls). Fort Genoa was still standing tall with its brick veneer intact. There was
damage to the north deck from the breaking waves of Lake Pontchartrain T he 4 garage d oors
and the workshop window (all on the ground floor were blown out by the flood surge T he
